I saw the documentary, Grass, recently, and it really reinforced why I feel the way I do about legalization. I am not necessarily opposed to legalization itself, as it wouldn’t impact me in the least, any more than cigarette smoking being legal. That is, whether it’s legal or not has no influence on whether I believe it is a wise choice to make — punching yourself in the face repeatedly isn’t illegal either, but it’s still stupid. What I am opposed to is the “legalization movement.” This group is every bit as preachy as the other side, and the average guy I know who advocates legalization is just as willing to spout misconceptions and half-truths.
It’s just obnoxious, and annoying. Of all the potential freedoms from government influence they could be fighting for, this is the cause they pick? Honestly, just grow a plant of your own, toke up in your house, and find a new cause to champion. You’re not helping your cause by being a whining loser, and there are so many more worthwhile causes to advocate — causes that will have a meaningful impact on society.

My take: If a candidate was being very careful about the friends he chose 20+ years ago, it says one of two things about his choice in a church he continued to attend for 20 years. He was either sorely and consistently lacking in the judgement required to distance himself from a man who would ever spew the kind of vitriol that Pastor Wright has spoken, or he carefully chose his church as well, and backs the beliefs espoused by its leader.
You can’t choose your family. You CAN choose your friends, and your church. The american people will figure out this guy is the political equivalent of cotton candy, sooner or later. Fluffy and sweet, but ultimately lacking any real substance. I just hope they figure it out in time.
Recently I wrote a political rant in the comments section of a post on my good online buddy fubabee’s blog. It was in answer to her question: “Were we lied to about Iraq?” It’s all over the map as it was written off the top of my head, and could do with some editing and additional research, but I’ll just post it here as-is anyway. Deal.
