My problem with home ownership.
I just saw this joke and realized that this is my big annoyance with home ownership.
“The trouble with owning a home is that no matter where you sit, you’re looking at something you should be doing.”

This article made me chuckle. Not because of its claims, because I agree. But because of this paragraph:
The interviewers graded each student’s overall performance and employability while five trained handshake experts also scored students on their handshake. The scores were then compared.
“Trained handshake experts?” Really? I can see the resume now.

It’d make me wonder whether I was hiring a person or a golden retriever.
My dad is finally at the age where he’s applying for social security. He received his paperwork yesterday and they had placed his cover sheet on the disability request forms of someone else. As he was telling me about this, the following exchange occurred on his speakerphone:
Dad: I can’t believe they messed this up. This is a federal agency! Anyway, so I’m going to…
Me: Wait. Wait, wait, wait — rewind, and say what you just said again.
Dad: What?
Me: "I can’t believe they messed this up. This is a federal agency!"
(Mom, in the background, laughing hysterically)
That made my morning.

Late last week and into the weekend, my parents were sharing with me what was an amusing development at my aunt’s house. Amusing to me, at least, at my safe distance of over 400 miles away. A young squirrel has somehow found its way into her house. My aunt is a bit of a pack rat, so needless to say, there are plenty of places for the little guy to hide. Apparently, he’s found a way into her ceiling as well and is generally wreaking havoc on her normally tranquil lifestyle. She’s really afraid of this little bugger.
So, the following are a few videos illustrating a few possible methods of dealing with the little guy, courtesy of liveleak.com and my ever-vigilant coworkers, whose timing in finding these videos was impeccable. Perhaps these will be of use to you if you also find yourself victimized by squirrels.

Ripley’s New Toy. My dad took this video of my cat playing around with a toy we got for her when we were out grabbing groceries for their visit. It’s just this little fish hanging from a fishing pole mounted to the sliding glass door with a suction cup, but she’s spent hours with it already. I decided to toss it on youtube (with horrible editing, I know) for some family to check out.
This article was written almost 2 years ago, and was pretty darn prophetic, if you ask me (which you didn’t). Sums up a lot of the problems I always had with MySpace, and why I can actually tolerate Facebook.
LiveLeak.com – Female reporter hit by zorb ball
The balance of the universe is upset by reporters who attempt to act EXTREME. Thankfully, order is restored.
Check out this slide show at Discovery Tech. Not just because it’s interesting, which it is, but because of this mind-boggling sentence on the last page:
Pearson conducted this experiment and some related studies on more than 11 participants.
So… 12 then? Usually, when I see some scientific study that says it’s been conducted on “more than” X participants, the number is in the hundreds or thousands. Or, you know, at least more than 11.
