A photo I actually like.

I don’t think I’m particularly photogenic, as evidenced by how rarely I actually like the way a photo of me turns out. However, I really like this one. It’s nothing particularly special, really. I just like the crisp line on the left and the overall color composition. I don’t know jack about photography, but I do like this photo.

Air Sharing

If you’re an iPhone or iPod Touch user, you should really get Air Sharing while it’s still free. I just happened to stumble upon it at the top of the “Free Apps” listing on the App Store, and I see why it was at the top now. It’s this app that lets you set up a shared folder on your iPhone or iPod touch, which you can access from a Mac, PC, or Linux box, or via the web. It lets you view the files on your device (with syntax highlighting for code!), or you can of course use it as a much slicker version of a USB key drive.

More Ike Damage

Here’s a downed utility pole even closer to my place. I got these shots last night. Not long after I got home, my cable went out. It was one of those on, then off, then on, then off, etc things, which means someone was likely monkeying around working on power or phone lines and knocked it out. Thanks, guys. Either way, I’m just glad I had hot water this morning. Anyway, here are the pics.

I HAVE ELECTRICITY!!!

That is all.

Pictures of the Damage

Not content to rely solely on my (considerable) artistic ability to provide a rendering of the damage to power lines yesterday, I snapped a couple of shots of the real thing. As you can see, there is now a bright orange “do not cross” line to ensure people are aware that they are not to drive through the multiple large trees in the road.

Electricity is nice…

…when you have it. I don’t, at the moment. What was left of Ike has taken its toll on the Louisville area, and I’m told I may not have power for another 2 to 7 days. At the office, however, we’re running on a generator, which means I have access to a computer. After attempting to explain the problem I found not too far from my home that may have some bearing on the electricity being out, I decided an illustration may help them understand. See if you can spot the issue.

Tree.

Tree.

Update: My mistake. According to the status page on their web site:

Harrison REMC reports that most outages were wind and tree related.

So apparently they know. That’s a relief. I thought they were related to alien takeover of our power grid.

Biden campaigns for Clinton?

Yeah, this’ll end well.

This article about the new Sidetaker web site makes me wonder what kind of couple would actually trust the collective “intelligence” of the Internet to solve their relationship issues.

Fun with Squirrels

Late last week and into the weekend, my parents were sharing with me what was an amusing development at my aunt’s house. Amusing to me, at least, at my safe distance of over 400 miles away. A young squirrel has somehow found its way into her house. My aunt is a bit of a pack rat, so needless to say, there are plenty of places for the little guy to hide. Apparently, he’s found a way into her ceiling as well and is generally wreaking havoc on her normally tranquil lifestyle. She’s really afraid of this little bugger.

So, the following are a few videos illustrating a few possible methods of dealing with the little guy, courtesy of liveleak.com and my ever-vigilant coworkers, whose timing in finding these videos was impeccable. Perhaps these will be of use to you if you also find yourself victimized by squirrels.
