Dave Barry vs. poetry.com
This rocks. Dave Barry has encouraged a little prank to be played on the good folks at poetry.com. Read on if you’re not quite sure why or how this rocks.
OK, so there is this site called poetry.com that runs a contest (as best I can tell the contest is real) and encourages people to submit poems online. Anyway, if you submit your poem, no matter how good or bad it might be, you get a letter in short order telling you how unique and wonderful your work is, and could they please publish it in one of their books? Oh, by the way, you could buy one of these books filled with poetry that has passed the strict criteria of the “International Library of Poetry,” (those criteria being 1. The person typed their poem in, and 2. They clicked the submit button) for some ungodly amount of money.
Well, Dave Barry has suggested that people submit some uniquely creative works of art using pen names all beginning with Freemont, and containing the phrase “the dog ate mother’s toes.” Very nicely done. Head on over there and perform a search on authors with the first name “Freemont” to view the fruits of his labor. :)
