Annoying web hosts

Grrr… I’ve been dealing with my fiancée’s (former) web host recently, because they auto-renewed the hosting of her site even though she intended to let the hosting plan expire. Not only did they auto-renew it, they raised the hosting costs from what she had paid the first year.

I spoke to someone on the phone there who explained that they’d have no problem refunding the full amount as long as it wasn’t being used. Now, almost 2 weeks after I first made contact with them, I get a mail that says they’re only planning to refund 11 months’ worth of hosting, “since it still costs [ company deleted ] to have the account on our servers.”

I don’t think they know I do this stuff for a living.

They might be able to say that it is “costing” them for CPU cycles involved in some kind of automated scripts that execute per-domain, or possibly that it is “costing” them for the under 10 megabytes of hard drive space she is using, but let’s get real. That server was going to be sitting there whether she was on it or not this past month. The only reasonable thing they could say they’re paying for is bandwidth consumed, and since the domain expired with the registrar well prior to the hostng account expiring, I know darn well no traffic was getting routed there.

That extra 6 dollars and 71 cents shall be ours, I say!

I know of a web hosting company that will host your domain and be good to ya! :)

OK, Dave. I’ll be sure to take the hosting costs out of the advertising fees for the blatant company pimpage that’s going on here. :-p

As for me, I’m satisfied with Citizen Hosting – they offer excellent service for a reasonable price
